Prayer before class, for illumination

This is a prayer of Kierkegaard, as quoted in Kitamori’s Theology of the Pain of God:

Lord! give us weak eyes

for things which are of no account

and clear eyes

for all thy truth.

Kitamori writes afterward:

Without these eyes, a witness is but a visionary; without this sensitivity, a theologian is but a loquacious man.

So, my prayer this morning before class is this:

Lord! blur my eyes to whatever is of no account; open my eyes to all your truth. Let my experience of you be more than daydreams; let my thoughts and words of you be more than chatty ramblings. Amen.
